Object of the Foundation and compliance with law

The object of the Foundation (Object) shall be to increase the resources of the University (by fundraising or by otherwise securing gifts and grants or by securing the provision of services or other non-financial contributions, including community engagement) to assist the Senate and the Vice-Chancellor in the promotion of the object of the University in relation to the field of Electrical Engineering through the School of Electrical and Information Engineering.

• EIE Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship

  The EIE Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship was established in 2010 to attract high-achieving students entering the first year of the Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical). It is also designated for students in under represented Equal Opportunity Groups and from a low socioeconomic background.

  The Scholarships program is generously supported by the Governor members.

• New Director of the Foundation Appointed

  

  John Gaskell was appointed Director of the Electrical and Information Engineering Foundation on 1 August 2010. He was appointed to the Foundation Council in March 2010.

  John was Chief Executive of ABB Australia Pty Limited between February 2002 to May 2010 with responsibility for all of ABB’s activities in Australia and New Zealand. 

  The President of the Council of the Foundation, Mr George Maltabarow, said that “John’s experience in industry provides the Foundation with a skilled and qualified leader who will continue the work for which the Foundation has achieved over the last 27 years.”

  John is an independent non-executive director of The Hastie Group.

• Strategic Priorities 2011-2015

  

  The School of Electrical and Information Engineering has defined its vision:  To be a leading international school in electrical and information engineering research and education. 

  As part of its first contribution to support the School to achieve that vision, the Foundation has identified six strategic priorities adopted by Foundation members in October 2010.

• Amendments of the Rules

  

  The Rules for Foundations were recommended to the University Senate for amendment and approved in March 2011. The major recommended amendments included that Foundations’ activities be expanded to include approved sponsorship and corporate social partnerships.

  The Electrical and Information Engineering Foundation produces an annual report each calendar year. The report highlights activities and achievements of the Foundation and School for the calendar year 2010.
