How to connect your laptop in our laboratories
There are 4 bright RED network sockets in each of labs 417 and 424.
These are available for students to plug laptops into.
All the network information regarding RED sockets is printed beside them, e.g. IP, subnet mask, gateway, DNS, etc.
For web browsing, please use our automatic proxy server, which is http://www.eelab.usyd.edu.au/proxy.pac
There are a few things that you need to be aware of though:
-
Don't expect to use these sockets while a lab or tutorial is in progress.
-
Bring your student card and be prepared to show it to any staff memeber that asks to see it.
-
You have to set up the laptop to connect to the Internet using the information on the label next to each socket.
There is no DHCP. These are real live IP numbers with valid DNS entries.
We'll monitor the use of them, and may impose restrictions on bandwidth, Internet access, uptime or number active if the privilege is abused by playing games or excessive downloading.
