  4. CSIRO  is offering Vacation Student Scholarships.
    The 2009 Vacation Scholarship Program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to work on real-world problems in a leading R&D organisation. Participation in the Vacation Scholarship Program has influenced previous scholarship holders in their choice of further study and future career options. Many have gone on to pursue a PhD in CSIRO or to build a successful research career within CSIRO, a university or industry.

    The scholarships are open to students who have completed at least three years of undergraduate study and who have maintained a credit average or higher. The students will be paid a stipend of  $650 per week. Scholarships are to commence on the 23rd of November 2009 and continue for a period of 8- 12 weeks. Each student will undertake a research project under the supervision of a research scientist or engineer.  Presentation skills training is provided as well as an opportunity to participate in an end of scholarship conference with other students and CSIRO research scientists.
    Last year's program was taken up by 100+ students with great success and we'd like to improve even further on this for 2009.

CAP-XX (Australia) Pty Ltd, www.cap-xx.com , has a position open for a trainee over the summer break for an electrical engineering student who is completing 3rd year this semester & going into 4th year next year. CAP-XX is an Australian company that is a world leader in supercapacitors. We will provide useful work and the student will get a good grounding in power design using supercapacitors for portable consumer electronics such as mobile phones and wireless modems, and commercial  products such as wireless sensors and Solid State Disk Drives. Salary will be A$600/week. The position can start shortly after your exams finish in late Nov/early Dec and continue till Uni returns at end of Feb 10, with a break over Xmas - New Year.
