Project title: ============== Fractal similarity for feature detection in remote sensing images. Supervisor: =========== Dr. Dan C. Popescu CSIRO ICT Centre, Marsfield NSW 2122 Number of students: 1 ================== Project description: ==================== Fractal self-similarity is ominpresent in digital images. It can be exploited to produce fractal image codes. Most notable applications of such codes are in fractal image compression, and in fractal based image zooming. There has been little done in terms of assessing how fractal self-similarity could be used to anlyse local image features. The aim of this project is: 1. To generate a special type of ``robust'' fractal image codes, from remote sensing images. 2. To analyse if and how typical local features of interest in remote sensing imagery are reflected in those codes. 3. To use those features to identify regions of interest in those images, such as water, rocks, vegetation, etc. Requirements: ============= The student is expected to have at least a basic knowledge of digital image processing, and have good coding skills in C/C++.
